I am in the committee of our housing society. Some members suggest that water supply should be stopped to flat whose owner is not paying up dues consistently to coerce him to pay up.
In our society, every flat has an independent water connection from the Corporation water supply and also, two or three separate inlets from the Society’s overhead water tank which is filled by pumping water from ground level storage tank.
I am aware that stopping corporation water supply to any flat is illegal. But, my question is whether stopping water from Society maintained overhead tank is within the Society’s rights or it is also illegal?

If there are direct supply of water by BMC the payment must be direct and the Society has no jurisdiction. The water supplied to fill up the Society overhead tanks, I guess no individual member draws any quantity from common tank. I do not understand how can the Society stop water supply going directly to members’ flats?
