The Madras High Court has asked the Tamil Nadu government to waive loans of all farmers in cooperative banks. Earlier, the government had waived cooperative bank loans of farmers having 5 acres land only, reports New Indian Express.
The High court direction is a relief for the farmers who have been demanding a state drought package of Rs 40,000 crore, waiver of farmer loans and formation of the Cauvery management board.
The court while giving the order has said the Centre should extend financial help to Tamil Nadu “during this difficult situation.”
The court ruled while allowing a petition by National South Indian River Interlinking Agriculturists Association.
