The entire nation stands in support of cooperative and urban cooperative banks said to be the worst hit by the recent demonetization. From DM to Chief Ministers, from an ordinary farmer to top political leaders- all have protested it as also petitioned the govt on the issue.
Govt sources however say it allowed cooperative banks to participate in the exchange process in the beginning but the reports coming from various states showed that huge amounts of black money were finding its way back into circulation through these banks. It was after three days that the RBI asked co-op banks to stop exchanging high denomination currencies. The govt has also started enquiry against several banks.

– NAFSCOB President Dileepbhai Sanghani met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Parliament Office and urged him to direct the apex bank RBI to revise its decision of not allowing District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) the exchange facilities for demonetized currencies.

-The All-India Nabard Employees Association has requested Nabard to prevail on the Centre and the RBI to allow cooperatives to accept and exchange demonetised notes.
-The Mumbai District Cooperative Bank has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court against an RBI circular preventing cooperative banks from accepting deposits in demonetised currency notes. The petition seeks setting aside of the circular.
-District magistrate of Bareily in UP Pankaj Yadav has written a letter to the chief general manager of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) stating that a huge number of farmers in the district were facing difficulties while purchasing seeds, compost and pesticides from cooperative societies after the demonetisation move.
-The cooperative sector in Kerala observed a hartal to protest against the restrictions on financial transactions imposed by the Reserve Bank of India on cooperative banking societies.
