Hindu reports the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Housing Society Employees’ Associations’ Coordination Committee held recently protest demonstrations simultaneously in Madurai and Salem raising demands including the release of their salaries unpaid for months without delay.
K.Murugesan, General Secretary of the Coordination Committee, said thousands of employees associated with 816 cooperative housing societies, had not been paid salaries for the last four years, he said
Murugesan said the cooperative housing societies, which distributed loans of Rs. 4,753 crore have suffered massive losses due to loan waivers and are now financially too weak to offer fresh loans, he noted.
The protesters also demanded immediate transfer of the excess employees in the cooperative housing societies to cooperative banks. The protesters were detained and later released.
