The cooperative biggie IFFCO has condoled the sudden passing away of J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in Delhi’s AIIMS on Thursday morning where he had been undergoing treatment for his multiple infections for the last two weeks.
IFFCO Managing Director Dr. U S Awasthi tweeted early Thursday morning “ #IFFCO condoles the sad demise of J&K CM #MuftiMohammadSayeed ji. May his soul Rest in Peace.”
IFFCO has connection with the state of J&K with its fertilizer reaching up to Leh and Kargil.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage at the mortal remains of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at Palam Airport, in New Delhi on Thursday.
In a political career spanning six decades, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had been able to create a second center of power challenging Abdullahs in the state. His daughter and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti is set to be the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir with party MLAs unanimously electing her as their leader and writing to Governor N N Vohra.
Born in Baba Mohalla of Bijbehara in Anantnag district on January 12, 1936, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had his early education at a local school and graduated from S P College, Srinagar. He went on to obtain a law degree and Master’s in Arab History from Aligarh Muslim University.
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed became Union Home Minister in 1989 and, years later, became the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir for a second time in 2015- in a coalition with the BJP.
