As a departure from its tradition, the national apex cooperative body NCUI is holding Governing Council meeting outside Delhi on Saturday at Rajkot in Gujarat. The government nominee on the NCUI board Jyotindra Mehta is hosting the event.
One of the leading cities of Gujarat, Rajkot boasts a strong cooperative movement with its top-notch cooperators working on the boards of several cooperative federations. Mehta who has risen recently to occupy the top post at Sahakar Bharati is Chairman of Rajkot Nagrik Bank-an UCB claiming Prime Minister Narendra Modi as one of its customers.
Talking to Indian Cooperative on the eve of the GC meeting, Mehta said all preparations have been done.
“I am leaving Friday evening for Ahmadabad as a direct flight to Rajkot costs a whopping Rs 30 thousand while it costs a paltry Rs 6000 for Ahmadabad. It is always economical to drive down from Ahmadabad by road to Rajkot- a three hour journey”, said Dr Dinesh Chief Executive of NCUI while shuffling agenda papers for the GC meeting at the NCUI headquarters.
Most items on the agenda are routine except the one most likely to come up regarding Dr Dinesh’s extension as his term is ending April next year. The government nominee was unaware of any such issue when this correspondent raised the issue with him.
If you ask me if I am interested I would say “yes” as I am excited to oversee the ICA-AP Co-op Assembly scheduled for next year unfold majestically. I have been part of the entire planning-process and somehow got attached to it emotionally, Dinesh replied to a direct question from Indian Cooperative.
