Maharashtra government has issued notices to 46 incumbent and former board directors of the Kolhapur District Central Cooperative Bank for the recovery of Rs147 crore that was illegally disbursed as loans, reports Hindustan Times.
Former ministers Hasan Mushrif, Satej Patil, Vinay Kore and former MP Nivedita Mane are among those who have been served notices. Their properties could be attached.
As per the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act, their properties could be attached to recover losses. We have such examples of recovery done in the past, said, principal secretary, cooperation department.
However, leaders of Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have slammed the move as one born of political motivations. The decision has been taken on the eve of the Kolhapur civic elections keeping narrow political calculations in mind, they complained.
