Whole of Delhi descended on a sleepy town of Bihar when Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh decided to host National Horticulture Board annual “HORTI SANGAM” in his constituency Motihari in Bihar last week.
The three days programme had a day April 12 dedicated to the theme cooperative. Dr Dinesh, Chief executive of NCUI was there as were IFFCO Director and officials including Premchand Munshi and Joint GM Yogendra Kumar. Kribhco was conspicuous by its absence.
Sited at the Gandhi Maidan of the town the function saw huge turnout of farmers and PACS members. According to an estimate there were more than 7000 farmers and out of 400 PACS active in the district, majority of them participated.
Role of cooperative is important in getting the farmers remunerative prices for the horticultural produce, said Dr Dinesh. Compared to other countries where horticulture products are processed to fetch better price Indian experience is bad; only 5% of their products are processed, Dinesh added.
IFFCO Director Premchandra Munshi’s FB post is replete with photographs of the event. Munshi writes “Mridda Jirnodhhar Evam Utpadakta Vichar Sangosthi” in premises of Gandhi Maidan,Motihari . A three day programme “Horti Sangam” organised by National Horticulture Board & sponsored by IFFCO,NCUI etc.Last day of programme concluded by IFFCO Seminar.
Dr. Ajay kumar Singh, SMM, IFFCO, Bihar and a well-known Agriculture scientist presented the scenario of Agriculture and Cooperation in nation with special focus on Bihar in the speech, reads Munshi’s FB post.
Talking to Indian Cooperative Dr Dinesh said that in Bihar there are 8400 PACS covering 100 per cent panchayats. A meaningful relation between cooperatives and horti farmers could lead to better results for the latter.
