Punnu Lal MohalePunnu Lal Mohale, cooperative minister of Chhattisgarh made a strong pitch for reining in some of the multi state cooperative societies operating in the Dhamtari district of the state. He said that such bodies neither shows transparency in their operation nor make members of the area office bearers in the organization raising danger of members  losing their hard-earned savings.

We deputed the District Magistrate to examine the operation of such multi state cooperative and what he found is very disturbing. These bodies take money from the members as deposit even though they have no RBI licence.

They also do not use deposited money in the area. Worst, they employ people without bothering for the established norms, said the Minister in the State co-operative ministers conference presided by the Union Agriculture Minister and hosted by NCCT recently in Delhi.

He also requested Central Government to give Rs 100 crore, in which Rs 50 crore would be in the form of grant for setting up an institute of cooperative management for meeting the training needs of state cooperative officials. For rice mills in the state he demanded an aid of Rs 50 crore.

For computerization of cooperatives in the state he Mohale demanded a further sum of Rs 30 crore. He aims to network all the 1333 primary cooperative societies in the state.

Responding to Mohale union agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh said that we are aware of the fact that some chit fund companies are using the route of multi state cooperatives to indulge into unfair means. We have decided to grant this status only after a NoC from the state henceforth, Singh added.
