The BJP jolly well knows that the cooperative sector that wields a crucial influence in the party politics of the state needs to be controlled if the party is to stabilize itself as a long -term political player in Maharashtra.
Analysts say this will not only cause the dethronement of the Congress and the NCP – the traditional controllers of cooperative bodies in the state but also greatly broaden the scope for the BJP to dispense favours to its own party men.
There are thousands of cooperative organizations spread across the state and their combined financial transactions count a whopping Rs 1,73,800 crore.
Sources say scores of cooperative entities in Maharashtra are ailing and the new govt. in Mumbai would have to take urgent steps to bail them out of their crisis.
Lets hope that BJP does NOT emulate NCP. It has an opportunity to start on a clean Slate. For BJP starting point is 97CAA. Be loyal to it and formulate a fresh policy around it. Re write the Amending Act Passed in August last in sheer contempt of Constitutional Mandates. The Department has people with extra ordinary zeal that they asked spcieties last year to change their bye laws before 31 5 2014 but NCP had its way and sent cooperative sector in comma. Take their services to impliment 97CAA IN TOTO.
