Most of these JLGs will be implemented by district cooperative bank. This is being done to get the poor farmers loans from sources that are not difficult of access for them. The JLG experiment in the district thus far has been a success, claimed the Nabard official.
Mr. Somasundaram was quoted as saying hundreds of JLGs have already been floated in the district in the last fiscal. The JLGs got loans tallying Rs. 63 crore.
S.Ramasamy, Lead District Manager, said small and micro traders dealing with vegetables or flowers could also be covered under the programme. He hoped that commercial banks would emulate the example of the cooperative bank.
The Nabard officials and secretary , primary agricultural cooperative credit society were addressing bank officials and representatives of various service organizations explaining to them the importance of the JLGs in the development of the district.
