National Cooperative Union of India’s President Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav is locked in fight with Uma Bharati of Bhartiya Janata Party over the Jhansi parliamentary constituency of Uttar Pradesh.
Bharti is well-known for her oratorical skills and does not mind hitting below the belt should political expediency require. Her public persona as an enfant terrible made the BJP high command consider her for taking on the Congress President Sonia Gandhi from Rae Bareli. But Uma is said to have refused.
The speculation that the party was considering fielding Ms Bharti, former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, from Rae Bareli gathered momentum after yoga guru Ramdev suggested it two days back.
Uma’s refusal, no doubt troubles the NCUI President. Talking to Indian Cooperative, however, Chandra Pal sounded confident. “I am hundred percent safe and Samajwadi Party is going to win”, he said on phone from Jhanshi.
“It is a hectic schedule as from morning to late night I am busy campaigning in my constituency. But I still manage to stay in touch with the NCUI and the cooperative movement of the country”, he added. Important files, Indian Cooperative has learnt are sent to him and he takes decisions on them amid his hectic schedule.
The election is scheduled for 30th April. Along with NCUI President several cooperative leaders are in fray this time.
