The fertilizer giant and the largest cooperative of the world IFFCO have completed the crucial part of electing its delegates. Billed as the biggest cooperative election globally, the cooperative giant has elected more than 800 delegates.
Talking to Indiancooperative.com, Dr U.S. Awasthi, Managing Director, IFFCO said “ I am delighted to share with you that the delegate elections have been completed in peaceful manner. This time we have got representation from every state of the country. The entire elections involved 20 state offices and 73 area offices of IFFCO.
The election process for Represented General Body of 800 Delegates is completed now. He further added, “Another, mega achievement of this election will be of women representation as delegates. We are planning to get at least 5% women delegates either by election or by selection.”
The process started in December 2013 and was over by March 5, 2014, informed Dr G N Saxena, Director at IFFCO to the Indian Cooperative on phone. Wading through the complex process the election machine worked incessantly in the remotest part of the country, he added.
Informed sources confirmed the re-election of all the Directors of the outgoing Board as delegates. Their re-election as the Directors in the new Board is however still in womb of the future. There are, however, more than 30 per cent new faces.
For the first time as informed by IFFCO’s Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi, women delegates are going to grace the AGM thereby fulfilling a long-time wish of cooperative sector to have women representation.
These delegates would elect the board on 2nd of May. Nominations for the Directors would be made same day and the election would follow soon after. Chairman, Vice-Chairman and other Directors would be elected.
IFFCO sources said that there is no surety that the outgoing Directors would be re-elected. The re-election of N P Patel as the Chairman is also in the realm of uncertainty. It is an election which by definition is given to springing surprises, said sources.
The AGM of new delegates and new Directors have been planned for May 15, 2014.
