Suresh Dahikar, director of Chandrapur District Central Cooperative (CDCC) Bank and senior leader of Yuva Shakti Sanghatna, was stabbed to death at Gurudev Square of Talodhi (Naik) village on Wednesday morning. Deputy sarpanch of village Swapnil Wakde has been arrested for the murder.
Talodhi (Naik) is six km from Chimur. Dahikar was also village gram panchayat member. Sources said Dahikar was heading to his farm on his bike around 8.30am. Wakde, who was waiting at the square, allegedly stopped Dahikar and then attacked him with knife. He stabbed Dahikar several times before fleeing from the spot. Dahikar was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Chimur police traced Wakde in Nagpur and arrested him in Nandanvan area in the afternoon. Police suspect political rivalry behind the murder. Offence under section 302 of IPC has been registered against Wakde and further investigations are underway.
