The President of National Cooperative Union of India Dr Chandra Pal Singh has been unanimously elected as Vice-President of International Cooperative Alliance Asia Pacific Region (ICA-AP).
The election took place at ICA-AP Regional Board meeting held on 5th Sept. 2010 at Beijing (China).
NCUI is the apex body of cooperatives in India and Dr Chandra Pal heads it presently and he is the only Indian to have got elected for such a coveted post. The other members of the Regional Board are from Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Sri Lanka.
International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) is the world body of cooperatives with its headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland). Many successful Indian cooperatives like IFFCO, KRIBHCO are the members of International Cooperative Alliance.
In the Beijing meet another Indian to get elected to consumer committee is Mr Virendra Singh who happens to be the Chairman of NCCF. Kudos to Indian cooperators!

I am visiting this site for the first time hence sorry for delay in posting my comments.Besides election of above two Indian leaders to different positions in ICA Asia-Pacific,another Indian,myself(Bhagwati Prasad,Ex-Chief-Executive,NCUI and Vice-President,Cooperative House-Building and Finance Corporation Ltd.,Lucknow(Registered under Multi State Cooperative Societies Act.2002)was elected as Chairman of ICA HRD Committee for the next term of four years on 1st.Sept.2010 during ICA Regional Assembly held in Beijing,China.Who so ever has provided information about the above news has knowingly or unknowingly missed/suppressed this news or forgot that I am also an Indian.
