IFFCO forced to export fertilizer: Awasthi

Posted on 14 September 2012 by Parasnath Chaudhary

U S Awasthi Managing Director of Iffco has said India’s fertilizer major has decided to export fertilizers to the countries in South Asia. It has already sold more than 15 thousand tonne of DAP to Nepal.

As fertilizer is in the negative list of export, it has sought permission from India government to sell crop nutrients to Oman in the Middle East.

A sharp reduction in domestic demand for fertilizers caused by a weak monsoon explains why Iffco is intent on exporting its products.  The company has a huge stock of DAP and NPK and it feels it can do a good amount of export.

According to Awasthi, Oman has always helped India with supplies of urea, India should reciprocate by supplying crop nutrients to meet Oman’s needs now.

Awasthi  claimed the fertilizer industry faces a crisis in that domestic  demand for  DAP and NPK  has   fallen by 29 and 27 percent respectively. Iffco alone has suffered a staggering drop of 32 percent in DAP sales and 44 percent in NPK sales, he added.

Remembering Kurien: IIFCO MD offers condolence

Posted on 11 September 2012 by Ajay Jha

Excerpts of condolence letter written by IFFCO Managing Director Mr U S Awasthi to Mrs.Molly Kurien on the demise of cooperative genius Mr Verghese Kurien

Dear Mrs. Kurien,

I express my heartfelt grief on passing away of Dr. Kurien, the father of the white revolution and the founding father of the great cooperative institution AMUL.

He will always be an inspiration to the cooperative institutions like ours and our 40,000 cooperative members and 5.5 crore members. We will always miss the presence of the great soul, a pioneer, who believed in the strength of the cooperative movement.

Dr. Kurien not only proved to the world that cooperatives can be successful business entities which truly symbolizes the idea of ‘inclusive business practices’ but he showed to the world the power of rural India and the power of the Indian farmer.

AMUL led by Dr.Kurien, in a way epitomizes the power of ‘one for all and all for one’, in bringing white revolution.

This helped the Institution like IFFCO in ushering the green revolution. Both these noble cooperative institutions stood for a vision with compassion to become a symbol of successful Indian cooperatives. Dr.Kurien, was a noble soul behind the above idea.

On the behalf of entire IFFCO family, I once again pray to God to give peace to the spirit of this noble soul and may his guidance and ‘Aashirwad’ continue to guide us on the righteous path.

With kindest regards.

Yours sincerely,
(U.S.Awasthi)

IFFCO’s legal win over Hindalco

Posted on 05 June 2012 by Dipak Kumar

IFFCO has won against Hindalco Industries in the court.  The Delhi High Court recently ruled that Hindalco’s refusal to accept the arbitral award is untenable.

The dispute had arisen when IFFCO said it was not receiving supply of phosphoric acid from Hindalco as per the MOU.

The Hindalco counter-accused that IFFCO was not abiding by the MOU.

The matter was referred to a three member tribunal that had given a decision in favour of IFFCO.

The high court upholding the tribunal’s view marks IFFCO’s legal win over the Hindalco Industries.
